cell phone in Europe?

cell phone in Europe?

Has anyone tried the Mobal world phone? If so, do you have anything
positive or negative to say about the product? If not, do you have
suggestions about better cost-effective ways to use cell phones while
in Europe or anywhere overseas?

Thanks a bunch!

In Europe it is not common to rent a cellphone, as you can buy them very
cheap. You can get a simple cellphone with a pre-paid-card for as little as
10 EUR. Only drawback is that you are then tied to use the pre-paid-cards
from that very same provider, and the rates per minute are a bit higher
than using a cellphone with a proper contract.
Then again you don't pay a monthly fee for pre-paid cards, so you can get a
card for 10 EUR and take your time to phone the money off.

In Germany, look at big shops like "Media Markt" or "Saturn", they often
have good deals on pre-paid phones. You have to bring your passport to
register the phone (no big deal though).

Regards,

Frank

You can have the phone unlocked and then you can do whatever you like with it.

You could get martin locked and forget doing anything you like with him.

How widely are you travelling? Do you have, or can you borrow, an
unlocked GSM phone which covers the European GSM frequencies (which
are different from the US frequencies)?

If you're sticking to one country, you can get a pre-paid account
quite cheaply. I'm not up on the roaming arrangements for European
pre-paid accounts; maybe you can use the same account more widely.

I spent two weeks in Norway two years ago and took along an unlocked
Motorola V185. NetCom pre-paid SIMs and refills were available all
over; I got mine at an "Expert" electronics retail store.

Hi,

I've got a 4 band LG phone and an AT&T (very low cost) international plan.

I want my phone to work internationally but I don't really use it much
when roaming internationally... mainly sms txt msgs to and from home.

.50$ a txt to the US and no monthly fee.
