Hotels in Avignon

Turns out I'm going to have a couple of free days in Avignon at the
back end of July before heading up to the Tarn Gorge and was wondering
if anyone could recommend any interesting hotel accommodation in the
town. Character and location are probably of more importance than
price, but only up to a point! Also recommendations for things worth
doing/seeing while we're there would be welcome

Thanks in advance
Brian

I've never stayed there myself, but friends have reported very favourably of
the Angleterre in rue Raspail. No restaurant, but Hielly Lucullus is only a
few blocks away.

I agree. Very central, and old-fashioned, but that the charm of an old
European town. We appreciated it very much. Held by younger people, who took
it over, and who try to make more modern. We had a room on the first floor,
wiht a HUge terrace Very nice in spring!
