OT: Diet Idea - Sorta

Went to a new doctor, a pulmonologist, Thursday, and he gave me a good idea
about how to cut down on how much I eat. I told him I eat pretty well as
far as the right foods, but eat too much.

He told me to not bring the bowls and platters of food to the table, but to
make a nice serving on the plates in the kitchen - make it look pretty. Not
quite sure how to do that. Then, after eating the serving, I am done. No
seconds, etc..

Anyway, his idea seems very good. I don't know how many times I have had an
extra helping or "finished off" the beans, rolls, or anything else on the
table just because it was in front of me.

Neal

You could also use a smaller plate. Filling it would still make it LOOK
like a lot.

Actually, I was thinking about a bigger plate - something like a turkey
platter!

Re: OT: Diet Idea - Sorta

When my husband was placed on dialysis, we changed the plates we ate from as
well. Bread and butter plates for the main course (about 1 cup), sauce
dishes for the vegetables, fruit, or dessert (1/2 cup), and 4 oz. glasses
for water, juice, or diet pop. Every food is served in or on a separate
plate or bowl so the food in front of you looks like so much more than it
is. It works.

You can try some of these tricks:
1. Put your fork down after every bite - take your time and enjoy
your food, like the Europeans do.
2. Don't do anything else while eating (watching TV, reading, getting an
E-Bay order ready :-).
3. If you eat out, cut your serving in half and take it home.
4. Give yourself one small treat per day.
5. Eat the low-calorie foods first, to help fill up.

Good luck to you. We know you can do it!

Re: OT: Diet Idea - Sorta

I'll add one to that.
- make sure you are drinking plenty of water.

Also, I know that eating at night is the worst time, but I love to have a
full-feeling tummy when I go to bed. I always drink of a big mug of my
favorite de-daf tea before bed. Fools me into thinking I'm full.
