OT - What a pleasure it was to watch TV this morning

After all the unpleasant news regarding the travels of the Olympic
torch, the excitement of the 112th Boston Marathon was refreshing.
The last few minutes of the battle between the two women and the
fantastic run of the winning Kenyan male had me glued to the
television.

Listening to the cheering of hundreds of fans was in sharp contrast to
the ugliness in the past few weeks surrounding the Olympic torch.
When I saw that young Ethiopian woman wearing the winning crown, the
sight gave me hope the summer Olympics will give us more of such
peaceful moments between athletes of the various countries.

Are any of you planning on watching the 2008 Beijing Olympics this
August?

I usually try to watch the aquatic competitions. I used to do some
long-distance swimming competition in my youth, but they have nothing like
that in the Olympics, but I will watch the diving and swimming, and if there
are any horse events, I will watch those, of course.

I will watch some of the track or running events or whatever you call
them, chiefly because my husband likes them, and he points out
interesting details I would miss if I just watched on my own. I think
the Olympics have gotten too big, with too many events in sports that
many people simply do not follow. I think they should scale it back.
And I think they should drop the torch thing, because it just seems to
create a lot of bad feelings. I didn't realize until I heard this other
day, the torch trip around the world was first done by the Nazis in
1936. Reason enough to get rid of this tradition. Anyway, I will be
checking in a bit on the events.

Judity, I wish I could watch all the aquatics and equestrian events,
especially the diving and the equestrian 3-day events. I was in water
ballet and diving. Grew up 3 blocks from the ocean in Long Beach, CA,
and lived at the beach every summer. And, of course had horses all my
life as well.

Maybe I can catch some reruns on ESPN or ?? when I'm not working. :-)

Yep, and Hitler sure didn't like the black athletes beating his
"perfect race of people" either. Not sure of the name, but wasn't it
Jesse Owens who outran them all?

medal he he had won.
