OT - Gas prices

OT - Gas prices

I just heard from my sister who lives in Brazil. She wrote that
gasoline (low octane) is $5.80 a gallon. Suddenly, the $3.67 I paid
last week doesn't sound so bad. I am glad, though, I got it then
since the latest amount I saw was around $3.80 over in Cotati.

Are any of you closer to the Cotati amount or the Brazil one?

Ours seems to be running around $3.30 to about $3.40. After looking at your
prices, I'll try not to snivel.

Hey, what a bargain! It's 3.64 here. Seems we left-coasters take it in the

I haven't filled up since last Tuesday (the night of the 15th). DH had
bought me a truck since I we have the four horses and I needed one for hay,
feed, pulling trailer, etc. I almost swallowed my tongue when the pump cut
off at 75.00 and I had to restart it to finish filling up. However, it's
been over a week and I still have half a tank. I am afraid to look at the
prices. I try to wait until Tuesdays. If you get it at our Piggly Wiggly
gas station and use your greenbax card, you earn double greenbax and you
can then turn around and use that "money" for gas. However, I may have to
check out their Friday special if prices are too high - it's 3 cents off
per gallon on Fridays with your greenbax card.

Re: OT - Gas prices

Well, to be fair, I haven't looked in the last 2-3 days. I'll probably get
a nasty surprise when I do.

I gotta say, though, with all the refineries in this area, it seems like we
should have REALLY cheap gas--not so, though!

Re: OT - Gas prices

Okay, I got gas yesterday; $3.43 a gallon where I stopped (Citgo--BF tells
me I'm supporting Hugo Chavez), between $3.45 and $3.55 at all other gas
stations I saw.

You're so right, Sue. I hear also some foods are being rationed now,
too. Rice for one.

Is that just here in California or all over the states?

Re: OT - Gas prices

I heard it was certain retailes that are restricting how much rice you can
buy. Costco and Sam's Club. But they were restricting it to something like 5
25-pound bags at a time. I don't really think that's rationing. They're just
trying to keep people from hoarding/stockpiling it because the price is
going to go up. It was specific kinds of rice, basmati, long grain, and
jasmine are the ones I remember.

Right, that's what I heard. Not to be a bitch (like I am) -- but the guy who
they interviewed (Korean) from our area said he had (50 bags in his basement
and he was worried).

I heard on a news show earlier this morning that they are considering
recommending you stockpile foods before the prices go too high. I thought
it was funny because at the grocery store yesterday there was almost NO
rice or boxed mashed potatoes. I didn't put two and two together until this
morning. LOL

That's funny, because the newscast I saw last night reassured everyone that
there were no shortages in this country, and I assumed that's what they were
trying to keep people from doing.

I don't think it's a true shortage. I think people bought them up before
prices got any higher and the grocery store hadn't had time to restock or
the shipment hadn't come in.

Re: OT - Gas prices

More than likely. Has anyone noticed whether the price has gone up on rice?
I've been expecting that but haven't been grocery shopping lately.
