Long time, no see...except in the news!

Long time, no see...except in the news!

Hi all,

It's been awhile...I thought I would pop in and update on what I've
been up to for the last year or so since we last talked. I hope
everyone is doing well! I see a lot of familiar faces. :)

I am running my own maid service in S. Virginia since leaving MT and
dealing with aftermath of my husband's injuries in Iraq. But most of
my activities since that time are involved in the news.

As some may know, my husband was on the front page of the Washington
Post for the Walter Reed Scandal. Actually, he was on the front page
again last fall. He is now dubbed "The Face Of Walter Reed".

This past month, the Washington Post received 6 Pulitzer Prizes
including the Public Service Award medal, the highest honor, for their
stories on Walter Reed.

The reporters who did the story also won another award, the Heywood
Broun award. That ceremony will be held next month.

Dan is now retired (as of December) and we are still going strong!
Last week we spent the week in Breckenridge doing adaptive skiing.
Here is an article on that event:

* w w w .summitdaily . com /article/20080419/NEWS/931458750/0/FRONTPAGE

This story has made it in papers across the country.

The big news is that HBO will be here next month to start the script
for the movie they are going to do. They bought the rights to do a
movie based on the articles in the Washington Post.

Stay tuned.. . it 's coming to HBO soon!

Take care,
Torrey, former MT

Hey Torrey Lisa! Good to see you. Maybe Donna would like to work for
your maid service? LOL. Man, I wish you were up here - I need HELP!

Ha! Hey Rae! Good to see you too. :)

It's so nice to come back to so many friendly faces. Y'all are very
kind and make me feel at home.

I don't know if I still have my "mojo" for MT any more. I haven't
used a text expander in a LOOOONG time.

I'd help if I could. Maybe when I actually "retire". LOL

Something tells me Rae was referring to help in the maid service
department, not the MT department. Or maybe I'm wrong!

We had a BUNCH of tornados touch down in our area. One was hot on my
heels coming back from Driver, VA. The homeowner called me in a panic
because she was at work and knew there was one in her neighborhood.
Another client called me and had to actually get off the phone because
there was a funnel cloud in front of her and had to get inside a
building. It was crazy!

I missed it by about 5 minutes.

Thankfully we are okay. No damage. I hope Donna did okay.

Oh, on the comment from Rae...DOH! I can't believe I didn't catch
that for what it meant. LOL My brain went to mush.

This was taken today from the subdivision where I live:

That's how close it was. I was driving back from a town called
Driver, VA. It was right behind me the whole way.

A friend of ours was in his dentist's chair in the Suffolk/Driver area when
the tornado hit and the roof went poof.

Not my idea of a good time.

We got some serious torrential rainfall, but no funnels here.

All's well here. Our county was hit a little bit, but nothing like Suffolk
and Colonial Heights. They got hit really hard. There was a mailing today
that said that people affected can file their state taxes late and my
county was on the list of counties that can file late. Maybe there's stuff
that happened here that I don't know about.

We're used to hurricanes, but from what the news has reported, this is only
the fourth time in VA history that a tornado like this has touched down.
We'll find out if it was EF3 or EF4 supposedly tomorrow. Either way, that's
a fast wind!
