OT - I think Senator Obama might win MI this fall

I'm watching John Edwards endorsing him in an arena filled with
thousands of people. At first during the campaign, I didn't care for
John Edwards, but he's changing my mind with his gracious speech. Do
you think he would make a good VP if his candidate wins in November,
or would you prefer the VP be a Clinton?

I'm always a bit suspicious when a high-profile person, who was also
running for president, endorses another candidate. Who knows if a deal
has been made to be selected for vice president? I don't particularly
care for Edwards, but can't pinpoint why, other than the fact that he is
a Democrat :-) He reminds me of a used-car salesman.

That to me was my impression of Romney that or a manikin.

I really like Edwards, but, for some reason, I'm not sold on him for VP.
I'm honestly not sure why, though.

hee hee hee

The governor of Guam when I was there had been a used-car salesman
before he became governor, and I know *exactly* what you are talking about.

IIRC I think McCain might have been, also, although my memory of things
that far back is definitely foggy.

He was an attorney who sued people and got rich doing it. I forget what
they call those kinds of attorneys. I think he's just plain sleazy and I
wouldn't want to see him as VP. He's a great speaker though so lots of
people like him because he just sounds genuine.

Your word fits him perfectly, he is sleazy. When you think he might be
president if anything happened to Obama, it requires a lot of soul-searching
before wanting him to be VP.

Obama is a great speaker, too, and a lot of people like him because he
sounds genuine. I don't think he is.

Re: OT - I think Senator Obama might win MI this fall

I don't think Obama is a particularly good speaker, he stumbles and
stutters, but he does sound genuine. Only time will tell. He will get my
vote if he is the candidate, regardless of whom he chooses for VP. I don't
expect great things from any of them, but I'd just as soon go with the
somewhat "unknown" and I really dislike McCain. I was a fan of his until a
few years ago--thought he might give us back the Republican Party I was once
a proud member of, but he makes Kerry look like a real firm decision maker.
I frankly liked Hillary, which I know many of you do not, but she's done a
few things in the campaign that have soured me a bit. I think in my old age
I've just come to dislike all politicians!

I don't think so; I think politics has changed -- this is not an
original thought, BTW; just something that I agreed with -- and we no
longer have statesmen representing us (a statesman being someone who, in
the words of America the Beautiful "more than self their country loves")
but politicians (a politician being someone who is good as
politics/lobbies/whatever to get good things for the groups they are
interested in or who are most interested in them).

That plus the whole short-sighted mindset everybody has that has created
a big mess, and nobody is capable of taking the best-in-the-long-run
solutions to the problem, because it will make them so unpopular that
they will get kicked out. I am so thankful that Sam Armacost made those
hard decisions for B of A back in the 80s, because it would not have
survived. Of course, to have survived only to be kicked out once his
plan worked and to have Tom Clausen the "Let's keep the bank in the
dinosaur era; it was good enough for Giannini and it's good enough for
us" (e.g., in the 70s, he didn't want the bank to have ATMs and kept
resisting even when it became the latest thing and in the 80s, he didn't
want customers to have 24/7 access) return and claim responsibility for
the victory that was the result of ARmacost's hard work really stunk for
Armacost, and then to later by bought out by Nation's Bank -- well,
there is that old short-sightedness again.
