Re: Warning (for Gisele) Contains anti-liberal materialBlack people were denied entrances to bathrooms, and restaurants and stores
and in some places still are. You just happened to be experiencing what they
experience. You are living their experience and are seeing it is not
comfortable and is not pleasant and is horrible in your own country.
Something they have had but on a grander, government endorsed basis for
years (even signs "No coloreds"). Yes, it is happening still today. I
believe it was in 2006 Oprah was denied access to a store.

Not surprised at being annoyed about it....using it as a crutch, yes.
The funny thing is, my black best friend in Detroit and I got into a
fight as children ....she and I walked home (we lived across the
street from each other) on opposite sides of the street. She called me
a honkey. I said "I know you are, but what am I" rubber-bounce-glue
saying, etc. and she told me I didn't even know what one was. I
pretended I did and kept on going. It wasn't until I got home and
asked my mom what a honkey was that I discovered there was a real
difference between us, other than the obvious color of our skin.
The not so funny thing is that 35 years later, my daughter, who also
had no idea there was a difference, came home in 1st grade sharing
that her black friend told her that "all white people are stupid." Had
the shoe been on the other foot, my daughter would have been kicked
out of school for saying the same thing with black substituted for
white in that statement.
Also, my sister, a friend, and I stopped at a restaurant to use the
bathroom in Detroit one time. Two black girls came out of the bathroom
that was being guarded by a black security guard. My sister and the
friend went to go in, and the security guard crossed his arms, stepped
in front of the door, and announced the bathroom was closed and
refused them entry. We wound up having to find a dumpster they could
go behind in the streets, wherein they were screamed at by another
black person "White *itches!".
My problem is that 35 years ago it was a black person who schooled me
in racism, just as it was last year with my daughter. What do you
think would have happened had a white security guard denied entrace to
a restroom on a black person?
My feeling is that if this very thing weren't perpetuated so heavily
with such venom, rather than simply for historical purposes, the
perceived differences would eventually fade. Sure, there are terrible
racist groups out there, but they don't represent white-America as a
whole.
A pastor and his teachings/sermons play a significant role of
parishoners, and as such, he had a greater responsibility and failed
all of those people. As a parishoner of that church...for failing to
seek out a suitable leader.....did he fail to change churches simply
because he didn't want to be bothered? What would THAT say about a
potential leader of this country? I don't buy the whole idea that he
never heard him say anything similar is all of those years - just
another sad attempt at covering up the truth out of fear and in a
childish manner no different than Bill's.
The sad thing about this post to me is that I'm actually almost scared
to share stories on MY real-life encounters. lol.
