Implant AND Strain-Gage

Hi members:
I have a doutb. That is:
What the measurements I consider for statistical analysis data:
absolute values (module) or positive/negative microstrain values
obtained in the experiment (strain-gage equipment)

I am a Dentist in São Paulo (Brazil). I am a student of Post
Graduation in partial fixed denture (prosthesis).

For statistical which is the correct variable: the positive/negative
microstrain values or the absolute value?
In technical literature (papers) is not shown clear for me.
I need a help.
My research in vitro has the following independent variables:
- cylinders plastic and cylinders gold;
- loading points ( 5 points)
- 3 implants in each specimen

TIA
Ivan
