Trigeminal nerve pain... unusual cause?

Trigeminal nerve pain... unusual cause?

I hope someone out there can help me with this. Three weeks ago I
experienced trigeminal nerve irritation (for lack of a better term) on
the left side of my face immediatley after using an electric facial
device called the Galvanic Spa by NuSkin. My husband and I were
interested in being a distributor for the company, so I started using
the device on the right side of my face for a few weeks as a
comparison before using it on the left side. The handheld device
(about the size of an electric shaver) uses 2 AAA batteries, and is
used in conjunction with special gels to smooth and even skin texture
and appearance.
I used it 5 times over a period of three weeks on the right side of
my face, with pretty good results and no adverse reactions. The
first time I used it on the left side of my face, I felt slight
electrical shocks around the temple and cheekbone area. I applied
more gel, as suggested in the instructions, an continued the treatment
for a total of 5 minutes. After washing the gel off my face, I
noticed the left side felt numb and prickly... like when novacaine
starts wearing off after a dental procedure. During the next hour, I
started getting these roving "electrical shocks" over the left side of
my face... first the forehead, then the ear, the upper left eyelid.
After 3 weeks, I still have the half-worn-off novacaine sensation, and
the pain seems to have settled in my left eye and ear.
So, here's what I think might have caused it (and I hoping someone
out there has some input on this). I have alot of dental work on the
left side of my mouth... 4 porcelain covered metal crowns, plus 2
teeth that are mostly silver... all in "close proximity" as my
hygienist noted when I got my teeth cleaned. I think the Galvanic Spa
caused some sort of electrical interference with my dental work and
somehow zapped the nerves that run along the side of my face. I have
exposed metal at the gum line of the 4 crowns (a nickle color,
although I was billed for "high noble"), and even though the battery-
operated device uses a low current, I'm convinced that the crowns were
the cause of the nerve problem. The right side of my mouth only has
one crown, and most of the fillings are porcelain. I had a regular
dentist appointment last week, and x-rays and exam show no new
problems.
The company who manufactures the Galvanic Spa assures me that this
has never happened before, but there is a "warning" at the end of the
instruction booklet not to use the device if you have "metal braces on
your teeth, or have metal implants." When I asked what adverse
reactions would occur if a client had metal braces, they gave me no
examples, merely saying they "are required" to list that in the
warnings.
So, help me out here. I need some information on what can go wrong
when electrical currents are created between dental work and battery-
operated devices used on the surface of the face. I have a referral
to a neurologist in 2 weeks, but I'm betting he won't have any answers
for me without doing a lot of research first.
