SMD has ...

Deteriorated into a spam trap, and full of mostly crap.

Wiill start a one man crusade to rid this group of the
china shoe, watch, and crap ads.

Invite all of those who frequent this group to join in this quest.

Will provide complete headers, complaint text, and e-addys
for those who wish to join in.

SMD has become a dismal place to frequent, alas and alac,
it is up to the regs to revive this group. Back to the days when
true dental conversation existed.

It may be a futile quest, but nonetheless, worthwhile to me.

Am willing to do most of the search and destroy work.
Will you join me ?

No answers nor confirmations are necessary.
Will post all complaints that are registered, in Cut & Paste format.

There is power in numbers.
Together we stand, divided we fall.

Has anyone noticed the Dems lately ?

It is not just here, it is all over the Usenet. Much/most seems to be posted
through Google, and Google does not seem to care. Perhaps they want to kill
the Usenet because they can't post their ads directly on it?

Actually, I finally just filtered Google, and I no longer see the spam.

Sure, but I doubt that it will do much good.

Don't get me started. Given the three present Presidential candidates,
regardless of who wins I will be bitterly disappointed. I have never seen a
worse batch.

Did I say something?

I fear we are fighting a losing battle here. Perhaps we can form a
moderated group through Google Groups and be rid of any spam once and
for all?

George

As much as I detest spam, I think moderated newsgroups are typically worse.
Moderation creates a huge amount of work for a few (not all of that filtering
can be automatic), and it normally leaves a biased, slow moving, thinly
populated, and mostly unusable group for the rest.
