Article 1
The Contracting Parties confirm that genocide, whether committed in
time of peace or in time of war, is a crime under international law
which they undertake to prevent and to punish.

Article 2
In the present Convention, genocide means any of the following acts
committed with intent to destroy, in whole or in part, a national,
ethnical, racial or religious group, as such:

(a) Killing members of the group;
(b) Causing serious bodily or mental harm to members of the group;
(c) Deliberately inflicting on the group conditions of life calculated
to bring about its physical destruction in whole or in part;
(d) Imposing measures intended to prevent births within the group;
(e) Forcibly transferring children of the group to another group.

Article 3
The following acts shall be punishable:

(a) Genocide;
(b) Conspiracy to commit genocide;
(c) Direct and public incitement to commit genocide;
(d) Attempt to commit genocide;
(e) Complicity in genocide.

Article 4
Persons committing genocide or any of the other acts enumerated in
Article 3 shall be punished, whether they are constitutionally
responsible rulers, public officials or private individuals. ///

Doesn't genocide usually involve a large number of people in a
coordinated effort to kill large numbers of other people? What does
that have to do with individual women making decisions about their own
reproductive destinies?

Legalized abortion *reduces* the actual abortion rate. People in the
medical profession, for the most part, know this. Which is why, for
the most part, they support legal abortion.

One last comment.

Only rarely is the work of a medical professional tainted with a
charge of genocide. Two examples come to mind. A) Josef Mengele and B)
The other guy in Austria who killed 700 children in Austria during
WWII in the conduct of medical experiments. (He will go unnamed
because he is still alive.)

In the case of Josef Mengele, caveat 1) does not apply because the
crime of genocide did not exist at the time he committed genocide and
as for caveat 2) Megele went to his grave uncaught and unconvicted and
hence he went straight to Hell.

In the case of the "other guy" who cannot be named, caveat 1) also
applies, but caveat 2) is another story. He went to trial after a
long, happy and productive career in Austria. At trial he was found to
be senile and so the case was dismissed. It will never be known if he
will go to Hell when he dies.

I seem to have generated some acromony by posting an a legalistic
theme which is rather vague. Being a legalist concept, the theme of
this post should be either accepted or rejected on legalistic grounds.
I had better post the preamble of the genoccide convention so that the
legalistic theme can be better understood:
