How do you sort out the optimal foods in the aisles shopping for groceries?

How do you sort out the optimal foods in the aisles shopping for
groceries?

In the aisles at Cambridge Whole Foods Market or Trader Joe's or
Somerville DeMoulas Market Basket more foods appear to have more salt,
more sugar, more simple carbohydrates, more fats and more calories
than what would be the optimal foods.
